Ash Wednesday

The Northwestern University held and gathered at the Main Library on Ash Wednesday at 11:30 AM for a solemn and reflective mass, marking the beginning of the Lenten season. Students, faculty, and staff participated in the meaningful tradition of receiving ashes, symbolizing repentance and renewal. The mass served as a reminder of the importance of self-reflection, prayer, and acts of kindess throughout Leng. As we continue this spiritual journal, may we embrace the season with open hearts and a commitment to growth.

NWUERC Information Portal (NIP)

To make it easire and maximize the use of e-books from Perlego, an e-book database, the NWUERC created an online service called Information Portal. It is a special feature of the NWUERC website's Online Resources that brings various e-books from the database to support each of the subjects in each degree program offered by the NWU. This is one way of promoting the University's subscribed databases.

"Safeguarding Privacy in the Digital Age: Understanding Data Protection in SChools"

The Institutional Planning and Organizational Development Department or IPODD, conducted a seminar titled "Safeguarding Privacy in the Digital Age: Understanding Data Protection in Schools" with Atty. Robert Camarillo as the speaker on February 24, 2025. ERC's Nora V. Clemente and Rosana Jane A. Villanueva was in attendance. This initiative was aimed to enhance awareness of data privacy, ensure compliance with national regulations, and promote ethical handling of sensitive information within the university. This seminar is essential in strengthening our commitment to protecting personal data and fostering a culture of responsible digital practices.

Valentine's Day Celebration at the Library: A Sweet Experiance for All!

This year, the library celebrated Valentine's Day with a series of fun and heartwarming activities that brought joy to all who participated. A Valentine's Day Bulletin Board was set up, inviting students to write their funniest, cheesiest, and most creative pick-up lines. It quickly became a hit, with everyone contributing their sweet and silly lines. Some were clever, others hilariously corny, but all added a little extra love to the library's atmosphere. Additionally, in the spirit of love of reading and books, the library offered sweet treats to anyone who borrowed a book. It was the perfect pairing: a great books and a something a little sweet to enjoy while reading. Many took the opportunity to explore new stories while indulging in a delicious treat. It was a wonderful celebration of love, laughter, and literature, and the library was filled with smiles and sweet moments throughout the day.

Two BSBA OJTs Assigned at the ERC

We welcome our two BSBA On-the-Job Training Interns, Mark Vincent A. Miguel (MVM) and Mark Vincent T. Mangoma (MVM), who are now assigned to the Educational Resource Center to assist with daily operations and services. Their contributions will be valuable in ensuring that the ERC continues to provide efficent and effective services.

NEW ROUTER AT THE FIRST FLOOR FOR THE DISCUSSION ROOM 

To improve the study and research experience at the university, a new router has been installed on the first floor, specifically for the Discussion Room. This upgrade ensures a more stable and faster internet connection, allowing students to work on their research, access online resources, and collaborate effectively in group discussions. We encourage everyone to make use of this improved facility for a more productive learning experience.


NEW HDMI FOR THE NEW TV

A new HDMI cable is now available for the new TV, providing a better multimedia experience for students and faculty. This addition enhances the functionality of the TV, making it easier to conduct presentations, view educational materials, and facilitate interactive discussions.


Capacity Building for Internationalization

On January 31, 2025, the NWU RCSD hosted the Capacity Building for Internationalization seminar at the International Function Hall. This event provided an opportunity for faculty and staff to enhance their knowledge and skills in global academic collaboration, international networking, and institutional development. Participants, including Stehn S. Ateteo and Nora V. Clemente, actively engaged in discussions and activities aimed at strengthening NWU’s presence in the international academic community.

NWUERC Celebrates Customer Appreciation Day

On November 29, 2024, the Northwestern University Educational Resource Center (NWUERC) extended its deepest gratitude to all the loyal library users who continue to support the library’s mission of providing a dynamic and inclusive environment for learning and research. NWUERC recognized their regular use of the library, whether for studying, discovering new information, or conducting in-depth research, and breathing life into the university library as well as keeping library’s mission thriving.

To show our appreciation to the unwavering support of the users, the ERC hosted a special ice cream treat for all Northwesternians at the main library. This is our way of celebrating our loyal users - who have made the library not just a resource hub but a safe haven for learning, growth, and collaboration.


"LibVOCACY in Practice: Empowering Library Users with Library Skills"

As part of the celebration of the 34th Library and Information Services Month, themed "LibVOCACY: Unity towards Inclusive and Empowered Libraries", and the 90th National Book Week, themed "Magbasa, Mangarap, Magdiwang", the Educational Resource Center (ERC) successfully conducted an Information Literacy Training for the Computer Engineering students, Mechanical Engineering students, CIHTM students, and SHS students of Northwestern University.

Titled "LibVOCACY in Practice: Empowering Library Users with Research Skills", the training aimed to equip educators with cutting-edge tools and strategies to navigate and utilize online information resources effectively. This initiative aligns with the ERC's commitment to fostering an environment where faculty members are empowered with the skills necessary to guide students in research and academic excellence. Participants gained hands-on experience in utilizing digital research platforms, evaluating credible resources, and integrating advanced search techniques into their scholarly and teaching activities. The training emphasized the importance of critical thinking, resource evaluation, and the practical application of digital tools in addressing the dynamic needs of today's academic landscape.

The ERC's focus on inclusivity and empowerment underscores the importance of ensuring all library users, from faculty to students, are equipped to access and navigate information effectively. Initiatives like these are a testament to the library’s ongoing efforts to stay at the forefront of educational support. The ERC expresses its gratitude to the students and faculties for their active participation and commitment to professional development. Together, we move closer to achieving unity in empowering academic communities through research literacy.

ERC Celebrating the Joy and Power of Reading with the Theme “LibVOCACY in Practice: Empowering Library Users with Research Skills on Online Information Resource” 

This National Reading Month of November, the NWUERC proudly presents the “I Caught You Reading” activity, a heartfelt initiative aimed at fostering a love for books and he written word. Through this activity, we spotlight the joy and significance of reading in our students’ lives. 

Throughout the month, we’ll be capturing candid moments of students enjoying their favorite stories and exploring new worlds through reading. This initiative not only celebrates the act of reading but also serves as a reminder of its transformative power - bringing imagination, knowledge, and inspiration to life.

Orientation and Training of C&E Publishing, Inc. of Faculty Members on Perlego and Gale Academic OneFile

September 6, 2024, faculty members from the different colleges joined the orientation and training of C&E Publishing, Inc. on the Perlego and Gale OneFile databases subscribed by NWU.

PERLEGO is a digital online library focusing on the delivery of academic, professional, and non-fiction eBooks. It is a subscription-based service that offers users unlimited access to these texts for the duration of subscription. Perlego has been billed as “the Spotify/Netflix for Textbooks” by the Evening Standard. Learn without limits with unlimited access to over 1,000,000 non-fiction titles. Quality reading, in one simple space. Collections are multi-disciplinary, and can access eBooks with a simple search engine.

GALE ONEFILE provides 150 journal titles on various subjects from more than 24,000 journals, periodicals, and news sources from around the world.

Futures Literacy & Foresight Space

Futures Literacy & Foresight Space (FLFS). Located at the second floor of the Main ERC, this space includes the books and journals on futures studies available at the library. The area was established to support the university’s  futures studies programs and projects. Specifically, the Futures Literacy Space aims to: 1) provide information resources for futures subjects offered by the  NWU; 2) allow the university community to better understand why and how the future is used to prepare, plan, and interact with the complexity and novelty of societies; 3) support university leaders' capacity to shape policies and systems that withstand shocks and create long-term resilience; 4) assist university constituents in developing an appreciation for change, resulting in greater comfort with uncertainty and difference; and 5) help in empowering them to be more creative, open, experimental, and innovative.

Hybrid Learning Space

The library provides a destination for self-directed learners to get assistance to find information and trusted data from both physical and online information resources to attain their specific purposes in the form of the Hybrid Learning Space.

Computers in the Hybrid Learning Space are primarily for academic and research purposes only. Chatting, unnecessary emails, card playing, and pornographic surfing are strictly prohibited.

To make use of the Library Hybrid Learning Space, do the following steps:

1. Ask permission from the library staff at the Library Desk and show your University ID.

2. Fill out forms for the Hybrid Learning Space (ask the librarian).

3. Library users are given 1 hour of use and may be extended if no other users ask for use.

4. Please don't use USB. Send the information you searched to your email address.
